Upon completion, will have the capacity to power 80,000 homes

Gold Award winner for Best Waste/Energy/Water Project

A joint venture between Aecon Construction and SNC-Lavalin Constructors Pacific Inc., this redevelopment of one of Vancouver Island’s key generating facilities is the first public-private partnership (P3) hydroelectric construction project in Canada, and one of the largest on record.

Upon project completion in 2018, an estimated 95 per cent of the Campbell River will flow through the redeveloped John Hart station, generating 132 megawatts of capacity or enough electricity to power 80,000 homes.

The John Hart project received the highest honours in its category and top prize in overall competition at P3 Bulletin’s P3 Awards 2015, which recognizes excellence in private-public partnership projects across the Americas. The John Hart project team walked away with the Gold Award in Best Waste/Energy/Water Project and the Judges’ Award for Projects Grand Prix.
